Flare fittings seal with 45 degree metal to metal contact & require much higher torque than current o-ring fittings. Flare Fittings - Female Flare, Male Flare O-Ring Fittings: Used on current & late model heavy trucks, off road equipment & vehicles equipped with R134a refrigerant. O-ring fittings seal with the compression of an o-ring between two surfaces. This method is more reliable & requires much less torque than the flare seal.
